Clinical mental health counseling students not enrolled in the dance/movement therapy concentration may gear their elective choices so they also complete academic requirements for the (ACS).* Students interested in the ACS should take COUN 660 Counseling Supervision: Issues, Concepts, and Methods.
With some additional coursework (beyond the required credits for the MA degree), students may also complete educational requirements for a NJ-specific certificate, the (SAC CEAS). Please see the for course requirements.
*Students in the clinical mental health counseling program with a dance/movement therapy concentration do not have electives and would also need additional coursework for the academic requirements for the ACS.
Courses and fieldwork
All clinical mental health counseling students take courses which emphasize active learning, case examples, and personal exploration to build self-awareness.
Fieldwork supervision is intensive, with student/supervisor meetings with at least two professionals: the supervisor on-site and the faculty supervisor at Rider.
All clinical mental health counseling students take the same 45-credits (36 credits of core courses and 9 credits of fieldwork).
- Clinical mental health counseling students not enrolled in the dance/movement therapy concentration take 15-credits of coursework in: addictions, advanced psychopathology, and two electives from the program鈥檚 diverse range of electives (e.g., play therapy, disordered eating, trauma, creativity).
- Clinical mental health counseling students enrolled in the dance/movement therapy concentration do not have electives and take 20-credits of coursework in dance/movement therapy.
