Language and International Honor Societies
Outstanding students in French, Spanish, and Chinese, as well as students from across the College of Arts and Sciences who engage in significant study abroad programs are inducted into the following Honor Societies:
- Pi Delta Phi: The National French Honor Society
- Sigma Delta Pi: The National Spanish Honor Society
- NCHS: The National Chinese Honor Society
- Phi Beta Delta: The International Honor Society
Foreign Language Paper Colloquium and International Poetry Readings
Every spring, select students are invited to present original work from research papers or poetry readings in the languages during our spring Honor Society Inductions and Paper Colloquium/Poetry readings. The following are some of the recent award winning papers and essays from outstanding students:

Honors Program in Languages, Literatures & Cultures
Students who have a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and a 3.5 average in the major may be invited by the department to become a candidate for the Honors Program in Foreign Languages. In the fall semester of the senior year, students work independently, and with close supervision by a faculty member in the department on a Senior Honors Thesis in a subject of interest to the student. The student will register for an Independent Research and Study course for three credit hours in both the fall and spring. The student presents the thesis to the faculty on or before April 15 and will be awarded Honors by the department upon successful completion of the Senior Honors Thesis.
