С����Ƶ celebrated the undergraduate and graduate Class of 2024 during two ceremonies held at the CURE Insurance Arena in Trenton, on May 11. More than 1,100 students earned their degrees.

President Gregory G. Dell'Omo, Ph.D., encouraged graduates to take their place in the world with purpose, mission, enthusiasm and confidence, reminding them that they are joining a distinguished family of more than 60,000 accomplished alumni. 

“The knowledge, skills, experiences and relationships you have developed at Rider are lifetime assets,” he said. “They will help you manage the opportunities and challenges you encounter and offer you the confidence to lead creative, responsible and gainfully employed lives.”

Arcia Stokes ’12, ’15, a doctoral student of education, delivered the student speech for the graduate and doctoral Class of 2024. Reflecting on her path, she reminded her fellow graduates that their potential is limitless.

“As a Black woman, I carry with me the legacy of those who paved the way before me, and I am conscious of the responsibility to continue opening doors for those who will follow,” she said. “As we move forward, let us continue to uplift and inspire one another.”
  
During the undergraduate ceremony, Joi Brown received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters and William M. Rue ’69 received an honorary Doctor of Business.

Brown is the founder and CEO of Culture Creators, an organization committed to addressing diversity, equity and inclusion in the entertainment industry. Addressing the graduates, she reminded them that success is not measured solely by personal achievement, but by their positive impact on the world around them.

“Embrace the journey ahead with courage, resilience and a relentless commitment to using your gifts and talents for the greater good,” she said.

Rue, chairman of Rue Insurance and steadfast supporter of С����Ƶ, joined his family’s insurance business in 1969 following his graduation from Rider with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce with a major in insurance management. Today, Rue Insurance is one of the top 200 independently owned insurance agencies in the country.   

Addressing the Class of 2024, he said, “This degree is not just a piece of paper, it is a testament to the dedication, perseverance and limitless potential within each and every one of you.”

Computer science major Samantha Haines ’23 delivered the undergraduate student speech. Reflecting on her experience as a transfer student who overcame several challenges to complete her degree, she urged graduates to “stay curious and grateful,” reminding them that “The most beautiful transformations arise from the darkest moments.”

The Class of 2024 represents a diverse cohort, with students from 27 states and two U.S. territories, with 75% of graduates calling the Garden State home. About 4% of the class are international students hailing from 20 different countries, including Morocco, South Korea, Senegal and Brazil. Approximately 39% of graduates are underrepresented students. Among graduate students, 30% earned their undergraduate degree from Rider as well.
