Students win prizes that included iPads and Playstations
A group of student ambassadors from 小优视频 won the Barron's in Education activation contest, besting student teams from more than 50 colleges and universities around the country.
For their efforts, the students each won a prize from a selection that included an iPad, Xbox One S, PlayStation 4 and a Chromebook.
The contest called for creative ways for students to increase participation and awareness in Barron鈥檚 online materials. The students planned and facilitated sign-up booths at Rider events, on-campus television advertisements, and a QR code. As a result of the students鈥 efforts during the contest, activations for Barron's online titles saw growth of 140 percent during the spring semester.
鈥淩ider students made a big impression on Barron鈥檚 management team, particularly with their leadership, enthusiasm and creativity,鈥 said Dr. Ron Cook, associate dean in the College of Business Administration.
Rider student ambassadors included Andrew Gandham 鈥19, a finance and international business major, and Luke Musselman 鈥19, a finance and sports management double major, as well as two students who are now rising seniors, Saher Khan, an information systems major, and Joshua Lim, a finance and business analytics double major.
鈥淲hat a terrific group of students you are nurturing!鈥 said Joseph Piombino of Barron's/Dow Jones in a congratulatory letter to Dr. Cook.
Last year, Rider became the first college or university in New Jersey to participate in the Barron's in Education program, which helps ensure that future business leaders are equipped with the necessary financial literacy skills. The program consists of numerous experiential learning opportunities for students and faculty in the College of Business Administration, including an invitation for a small group to visit the Dow Jones Headquarters, a tour of the Barron's, Wall Street Journal and MarketWatch newsrooms, free access to Barron's online content, intern and job opportunities from Barron's corporate recruitment team, and guest speakers and webinars from Dow Jones and Barron's.
As part of the program this year, the students participated in quarterly webinars hosted by Barron鈥檚 in Education senior management and featuring portfolio management and investment executives as guest speakers. The students used Rider鈥檚 new Center for Business Analytics to take part in these webinars and met afterward to plan and coordinate their efforts in the contest.
Rider鈥檚 participation in the Barron鈥檚 in Education program is sponsored by Marc Shegoski of UBS/Princeton Investment Consulting, who was honored in March for his support with a plaque unveiling in Sweigart Hall.
